From 8–12 June 2026, NLDA hosted Module 6 – Researching Management Practices in Border Security for the 2nd iteration of the European Joint Master’s in Strategic Border Management (EJMSBM).
The primary objective of this module was to equip students with the knowledge and skills required to conduct a quantitative research investigation within their own organizations. By the end of the module, participants had developed research plans that will serve as the foundation for concise, evidence-based research reports addressing real management challenges in the field of border security.
Throughout the week, students explored key topics including quantitative research design, survey methods, experimental studies, sampling techniques, data analysis, research ethics, and the practical application of SPSS. The programme combined expert lectures, interactive workshops, self-study, and peer learning, allowing participants to strengthen their understanding of quantitative research methods and their application to complex management issues in border security.
The module also benefited from contributions by experienced academics and border security practitioners, enabling students to connect research methodology with operational practice. The week concluded with presentations of students’ research plans, providing valuable feedback and marking an important milestone in their academic journey.
In parallel with the academic programme, Amsterdam also welcomed the EJMSBM Consortium partners for a series of governance and quality assurance meetings. The Quality Assurance Committee (QAC), Programme Board, Board of Examiners, and Governing Board convened to evaluate the quality of the programme, review its progress, discuss future developments, and ensure the continued delivery of a high-quality European joint master’s programme.
